Your Baby’s Amazing Journey: Developmental Milestones
10–12 Months: On the Move and Communicating
Physical Development:
May be walking independently or taking a few steps while holding onto furniture (“cruising”).
Can sit down from a standing position.
Shows more coordination.
Senses:
Continues to refine all senses.
Feeding:
Eating a wider variety of foods.
May be using a spoon with some help.
Social and Emotional Development:
May say one or two words besides “mama” and “dada.”
Understands simple commands.
Waves goodbye.
May show separation anxiety.
Enjoys imitating others.
Cognitive Development:
Explores objects in many different ways (shaking, banging, throwing).
Can put objects in and take them out of containers.
Things you can do to support development:
Encourage walking by providing opportunities for cruising and supported steps.
Continue to talk clearly and use simple words.
Read books with simple pictures.
Play games that involve following simple directions.
